A sustainable finance and insurance expert with over 15 years of experience. While at the helm of the Cambridge Centre for Sustainable Finance’s ClimateWise programme, Tom guided over 30 of the world’s largest insurers, reinsurers, and investors on the risks and opportunities they face from climate change. Across his career he has delivered industry-wide disclosure and climate risk research programmes aimed at catalysing action across the finance sector, was closely involved in the early stages of the Taskforce on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and delivered models helping to quantify ‘physical; and ‘transition’ climate risks for investment and lending portfolios. As a former advisor to the UK Government on Green finance and resilience, he launched and led the UK Government’s ‘Tech for Growth’ and BimaLab programmes, both aimed at catalysing emerging market fintech. He also launched the Department for International Trade’s flagship Global Resilience Summit. Tom regularly advises teh private, public and non-profit sectors on insurance, green finance, fintech and resilience financing. His PhD from the University of Cape Town explored Finance in the Anthropocene, a topic he continues to teach on.
